Baltimore Album Quilts with Blossoms
1997 Baltimore Country is another example of a Baltimore album quilt. Ruching, in the center floral detail, is a gathering of stitches on fabric and then pulling the stitches tight to form the blossom. The flower is then appliqued into place. Typical of her Baltimore Album Quilts, Baltimore Country shows a life style that Frances loved, such as the rooster being a symbol of farm life. Each square has exquisite scalloped quilting.
This quilt was included in the Vermont Quilt Festival show in which Frances was Featured Quilter. Twelve of Frances’ quilts were in the show. This quilt is also one of the quilts featured in an article about Frances’ work in American Quilter magazine, Summer of 1999 issue.
