Farm Life Depicted in Country Barn Quilts

1999  Stenciled, appliqued, pieced, hand-quilted, Poultry Manor is a delight for the eye and a treat for the funny bone, combining high quality applique with barnyard comedy. Careful treatment of the birds’ plumage lends an air of reality to this whimsical quilt. Frances really got out to the country in this quilt. Her love of chickens, roosters and barns shines in this quilt, as it did in a number of country barn quilts that she made. The sunrise on the top was hand-stenciled with paint then quilted around each ray. Fabric choices and needlework with occasional embroidery add flair to this wonderful quilt.

This quilt won the Viewer’s Choice and Judges Choice Awards at the 2000 Vermont Quilt Festival and also won the 1st Place/Blue Ribbon at the Cape Cod Bayberry Quilt Show.
